Tthe Salivary Glands(涎腺) and the Hypopharyngeal Glands(咽腺) of Worker Honey Bees
Top left are the salivary glands (涎腺)and the other the hypopharyngeal glands(咽腺) of worker honey bees. Both are located inside the head. Salivary glands produce secretations used to mix with wax, while the hypopharyngeal glands produce a secretion rich in protein that is added to the royal jelly or worker jelly (in nurses), or produce invertase, an enzyme that breaks down sucrose into fructose and glucose (in foragers).
